Limpopo artiste Nomcebo has just released a heart-warming message to her mother, describing her as the reason she writes soulful songs.
She made this known of her mother in a tweet yesterday 28 September 2020. Her tweet had the hashtags #XolaMoyawam and #Jerusalema. Here she subtly referenced herself as the writer of the trending “Jerusalema” song.
Controversy recently erupted over who, between her and Master KG, wrote the song. Wikipedia has the two of them as co-writers. Online, the “Xola Moya Wam” singer’s fans think she is not being given enough credit for the song whenever it is mentioned.
A notable voice insisting Nomcebo be given due credits is the poet and singer Ntsiki Mazwai. She insists the profits from the song should be split 50/50 between Nomcebo and Master KG. While some Twitter denizens agreed with her on this, others denounced her.
Either way, “Jeruslaema” has become the most successful South African song ever, endorsed by global celebs like Christiano Ronaldo and Janet Jackson. And one cannot erase Nomcebo’s name from that success. Or what do you think?
